Anytime is Tea Time! Tea Time is family time in many countries around the world including Australia. Tea time with family and friends has been a favourite time for me all my life. One of the best things about tea is how it brings people together to relax, unwind, enjoy each other's company and a cup of tea with treats. It might come as surprise for some people that there are more tea drinkers in the world than coffee drinkers. In fact, tea is the second most popular drink after water. So where did it start? Many researches believe that tea came from China originally where it was first used in medicine over 1000 years ago. Since then tea has reached every corner of the world. Many countries have developed their own tea ceremonies and tea traditions. There are many popular and famous traditional black, green, red, yellow and white varieties of teas, plus various traditional floral and herbal teas. Chinese Oolong, Pu-erh tea, Japanese ceremonial green Matcha tea, South African Rooibos tea, Indian varieties of black tea and traditional sweet and spicy Chai (black tea with milk and spices); smoky Russian Caravan black tea; Moroccan Mint tea, red Jamaican Hibiscus tea, Vietnamese blue lotus tea, Taiwanese bubble tea are just some of popular traditional teas. Speaking of traditions, one has to mention Great Britain and English influence of tea drinking that became very popular in Europe since 19th century. The English have invented traditions of Devonshire tea with scones, clotted cream and homemade jam; afternoon High Tea with variety of little sandwiches and delicious pastries. Traditional English High Tea is now popular in other countries as well. Herbal and floral teas have been made and used around the world since humans started using plants in their food, drinks and medicine. Aromatic herbs, flowers and spices were originally added to water to make it taste better. First herbal teas were infusions of various herbs and flowers steeped in hot water. Herbs, flowers and spices were also used in medicine and foods to bring more flavour to otherwise bland dishes. In some cultures in Europe and Middle East herbs and flowers were used in baths and bathhouses for hundreds if not thousands years. Ancient Romans, Egyptians, Greeks, Turks, Persians, Indians, Japanese, Assyrians were among oldest nations to bath with aromatic herbs and flowers for cleansing and relaxation. In Russia people traditionally have been using bunches of young birch tree twigs with leaves, sage and sagebrush in steamy hot bath houses and drank herbal teas afterwards to stay healthy through the year and especially during freezing cold winters. Herbs and flowers were widely used for their healing properties in many cultures since ancient times. It's the main reason why Herbal teas have been becoming more popular lately. Teas with aromatic herbs and flowers have been my favourite for a long time. Teas that help to relax and unwind at the end of the day, at lunchtime, while travelling and any other times. I have been learning about herbs and herbal teas since I was growing up. I am passionate about health, well-being, nature and herbal teas with healing properties.
