"To keep your computer from waking up in sleep mode, go to Power & Sleep Settings. Then click Additional power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings and disable Allow wake timers under Sleep."
Why is this so incredibly complicated? Why can't I just click sleep on the surface pro TABLET to turn it off until further notice? Why is this waking me up in the middle of the night? Who's the genius that designed it this way?
I have tried all kinds of advice and this finally worked. In my case, it was the mouse waking the PC from sleep every five minutes, and in this case, only one of the mouse drivers, So disabling the wake function still allows me to wake the PC using the active mouse device. Thank you.
I have never had updated graphics card drivers fix a sleep problem, most the time I find windows or another program has added or changed something, most the time I have to use the powercfg /requestsoverrides Driver "what ever driver or program here" System It has always been some of these things or the allow wake timers is on somehow, but I see some say graphics card drivers.....just has never been my system problem, but then I run Nvidia geforce and do keep up the drivers most time, go figure
see maybe if the camera itself has a setting to wake the system if it catches movement, it has to be camera or sound if it wakes from movement in room or sound, maybe put a blocking over camera so it cant see and see if it then does not wake on movement...then try the same with mic......I would look into the settings on the Dell also to see if they have some settings for that, it is intriguing at least....lol, let us know what you find, does it have Windows 11 on it?
If your Windows 10 wakes from sleep, you might have a task or application that is waking it automatically. ... Press Windows Key + X to open Win + X menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list. Now enter powercfg /waketimers in Command Prompt. Now you should see the list of apps that can wake up your PC.
1) when I switched from a hard-line LAN connection to a USB-connected wireless adapter, my brand new desktop PC would not awake after it was put to sleep. Talk about weird...the PC would spin up its hard drive, flash some front panel lights, and then go back to sleep. Damnedest thing I've seen in a long, long time (and I've been using PCs since the days of DOS).
Same basic problem in that Win7 successfully goes into either sleep or hibernate, and it DOES respond to the keyboard when attempting to wake the Acer laptop, but it freezes on a black screen. The monitor is on because I can see the glow around the edges. Essentially, the lights are on but nobody's home. The Sleep/Hibernate worked perfectly when running Vista, then I upgraded to Win7. I'm not sure if Sleep/Hibernate were working immediately after the upgrade, but after installing Office and using the laptop for a few days I discovered the consistent failure to wake. I've done the "Clean Boot" and problem remained. I doubt that it could be BIOS because the same hardware worked in Vista. Nothing is plugged in to USB.
One more observation, attempts to wake from Hibernate give me a DOS-like cursor on the black screen for about 2 seconds before going totally black. Could it be that some memory dump file is not being created or not being found?
wierd thing is that it was working before I installed drivers. With just installing win7 and all windows updates, it went fine. but after installing all other drivers it went to crap and won't wake from sleep.
I downloaded dumppo and tried "dumppo.exe admin minsleep=s3" and voilá, the system goes to S3 standby! And then even wakes up with the remote! Screen turns on, everything seems fine, except it is completely frozen, does not even respond to reset.
Currently I'm playing with the MCE Standby Tool. So far I managed to force system to S3, and it wakes, and works, but after every reboot I have to force the dumppo setting again, and many times it still locks at returning from standby.
For me, it was the (American Megatrends in a Cyberpower desktop) BIOS sleep settings, it seems it was delivered with wake from keyboard and mouse both disabled. I enabled them (and btw set the keyboard to wake on any key, sleep state to suspend-to-ram) and everything works.
I had the same problem. I thought it was hybrid sleep. I disabled that, but didn't work. I pressed control, alt, delete and that would wake the computer. I tried everything thing I've read, but nothing. I just changed a setting in power options advanced settings and it seemed to change it back to normal ( what ever that is for a Microsoft product ). I disabled USB selective suspend setting to disabled.I to had the USB error message about the speed not being what it should. I hope it helped. I wouldn't have thought of it with out reading your posts.
I use Ubuntu 18.04 on my Surface Pro 4. I have a problem with the sleep mode. When my Surface Pro goes to sleep, I can't wake it up with the keyboard, mouse or power button. I need to use hard shutdown. I think the device is waking up but the screen is staying black.
2. the main problem I'm reporting, is that the monitor won't resume from a sleep state 95% of the time. I have to pull the power cord from the monitor, then plug it back in. The Surface Pro has no problems awaking from sleep itself. It is only when I'm hooked in to the monitor. NOTE - I also experienced this problem with my previous Surface Pro 3. I tried turning off DDC/CI, but didn't help. I also did a factory reset.
After implementing one (or both) of these options, your Surface should no longer mysteriously wake itself up a few seconds after you put it to sleep and cause a flat battery when you try to use it again.
Sleep mode is a convenient power option for your computer, as it lets you pick up right where you left off. Normally, you only need to hit a keyboard key or move your mouse to wake your PC from sleep.
But what if these don't work? You can always wake your PC from sleeping with the power button, but using your peripherals is more convenient. Here's what to do when your keyboard and mouse won't wake your Windows 10 or 11 computer from sleep.
Be careful when using these options with a laptop. If you have a wireless mouse connected and forget to turn it off, you could accidentally wake your laptop from sleep when it's in a bag. You can destroy your laptop by leaving it in a bag while running, as this generates a lot of heat.
If you don't see the Power Management tab on any of your keyboards or mice, either your hardware doesn't support waking the computer from sleep, or you don't have the proper drivers installed. Check our guide on updating Windows drivers for help with getting the latest ones.
Also, it might sound obvious, but make sure that your keyboard and mouse are working properly overall. If they suddenly don't do anything, they of course won't wake your PC from sleep. We've shown how to fix an unresponsive laptop keyboard.
Hopefully, you're now able to wake your computer from sleep just by pressing a key or moving your mouse. Problems with this usually come down to USB power management, which you can fix with the above.
My laptop is set to go to sleep when not in use, but when I have it set to use Dual screens, after I "wake it up", all I can see is the mouse on the second screen, flickering. If I unplug the VGA cable, the laptop screen wakes up, and I can see the log-in screen. Once I plug the VGA cable back in, the second screen "wakes up" too.
I had a similar issue with one of my dual monitors not showing up after resuming from sleep. I used the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Win+B to restart the graphics driver and my main screen flickered off and then both screens turned on.
I just wanted to add my solution, in case it can help anyone. I searched high and low on the internet why my 2nd monitor would not wake up after computer goes to sleep etc, but my solution ended up being very simple - cable issue. once i replaced the cable connecting my second monitor to my laptop, I have not had any issues!
I have a PC with dual monitors and use the latest version of win10. I have increasingly had issues with the graphics side since upgrading to win 10, most I have lived with or overcome to a certain extent. My latest issue has been related to sleep mode start up, without going into too much detail this was overcome by changing from sleep to hibernation. Now the PC is in hibernation mode the 2nd monitor will not wake up until I restart the PC. I don't like to be beaten and have spent a lot of time going around in circles, the PC was a high end spec when built in 2011 but the root of the problems are due to the graphics chipset on the mobo do not support win 10. It's not obvious until I contacted asrock who confirmed this. The PC still works well when running but I am going to change the mobo for one that supports win10. In summary if something in your PC/laptop is not compatible with the latest win10 update you can spend a lot of time chasing your tail until you hit a brick wall. Hope this helps.Update - have changed motherboard to one with a Win10 compatible chipset and the problem has disappeared.
ati radeon HD 3850 does work with 2 screens but screen 2 doesn't start after sleep. Workaround. Screen settings, copy screen change into extend screen. (Screen will wake up) revert the setting to either extend or copy This works in a AMD 64 win 10 with fall update problem. screens are Acer AL1916w and Neovo 17e My setup worked flawless with w10 64 amd processor and hd3850 but after fall update recently...neovo e-17 screen keeps in standby (yellow light) only wakes up when change settings from extend to copy or visa versa. Problem is Windows update. But here is my workaround. 2b1af7f3a8
