After researching the problem, I updated the backup software on the system and re-ran a test backup. The backup completed and no errors were displayed in the log. A week later the same event started to occur. A few days later, after I had updated the backup software on the system again, it again failed. This cycle repeats and I'm unsure why. The event viewer log seems to be clear of any errors, but the backup software is failing and I'm not sure why. After researching the issue, the only common solution I have found is to remove Microsoft-Windows-Symantec-vnX.X.X.X- vnX.X.X.X -Microsoft-Symantec-BackupExec. It appears that this is a Windows Server 2003 SP2 R2 specific issue. This release of Microsoft-Windows-Symantec-vnX.X.X.X- vnX.X.X.X -Microsoft-Symantec-BackupExec has been released (04/24/2012) and I'm unsure if this is a known issue. I would appreciate your insight.
After researching the issue, it is clear that the backup was failing due to the fact that the system was patched and the backup was made using an earlier version of the backup software, as shown in the below picture:
I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 machine that was recently patched with all critical MS Updates (it was behind) after which I began to recieve Event Viewer - Application - Warnings and Errors and my Symantec Backup Exec began to fail (12.5 for Windows Server). The failing backup is a File System Backup-Incr FS Backup.
